SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Clean eating–it’s a fairly new term, but you’ll find more than 41 million Instagram posts with the hashtag.
Now a new Sioux Falls restaurant is focusing on that movement.
“There’s not really anything like it here in Sioux Falls,” co-owner Shaley Bolks said.
Daily Clean Food & Drink opened Monday in south Sioux Falls near 69th Street and Western Avenue.
“We have no sugar added into any of our food, no soy, nothing processed,” Bolks said.
Bolks says the restaurant is also proud to be 90 percent organic.
“All of our produce is certified organic produce,” Bolks said.
While this is a unique restaurant in South Dakota, eateries like this are popping up across the nation.
Grocery stores, such as Hy-Vee, are also seeing more interest from people wanting to eat natural foods.
“People are just becoming more aware of their wellness and looking more at the label and trying to be more conscious of what they’re putting into their bodies,” Hy-Vee Registered Dietitian Amanda Lambrechts said.
Lambrechts says while it is good to eat more whole foods, she cautions that you can take it too far.
“It becomes almost an obsession with eating healthy, so that can actually be translated into orthorexia nervosa, which is almost an eating disorder,” Lambrechts said.
Back at Daily Clean, they’re not afraid to bite into the trendy term.
“The knowledge on health and wellness and everything is so great these days. It’s hard to ignore the fact that excessive amounts of sugar and processed foods are not very good for us,” Bolks said.
It is why Bolks believes more people are keen on clean.
Daily Clean Food & Drink is located in a new retail center called The Wedge.
EarthWise Pet Supply and a boutique fitness studio called Define Body & Mind are also in the new development.
